We are Fugleadvokatene

We speak up for urban birds. We save birds’ lives and work towards a city where birds are treated with respect, care and understanding.

FugleAdvokatene is a non-profit, volunteer-run association that rescues and rehabilitates injured and sick urban birds in Oslo and Bergen. Through practical help, cooperation with veterinarians experienced in treating birds, and awareness-raising, we work to improve birds’ living conditions and give them the chance to live freely.

From individual commitment to an organisation

Our story began with a wish to help the birds that are so often overlooked. What started as individuals helping urban birds in distress grew into a broader effort for rescue, rehabilitation and better animal welfare. In 2018, FugleAdvokatene was established as an association with the aim of giving urban birds a stronger voice.

Since then, our work has grown through the efforts of dedicated volunteers and wonderful supporters who share our commitment.

Every bird has intrinsic value

Our view of birds is consistent with section 3 of the Norwegian Animal Welfare Act, which states that animals have intrinsic value regardless of their usefulness to people. Birds are individuals with their own personalities and needs. We believe injured and sick birds should not be euthanised without adequately considering the possibilities for treatment and rehabilitation.

Would you like to help us help more birds?

FugleAdvokatene is run in volunteers’ spare time, alongside work, family and other commitments. We do not have a staffed reception centre. Instead, birds receive care and follow-up in our rehabilitation homes.

The need for help is great, and our capacity depends on the people who contribute. You can make a difference by becoming a rehabilitation home, helping to secure or transport birds, or supporting us financially.

Every bird we help is a life given another chance. Join us and make a difference for urban birds!
